About Us
Chemotherapy Headwear was born out of a need - a need to ensure women have comfortable headwear to support them during cancer treatment, and a need to fight back against the trauma of cancer. Almost 20 years later and we are still going, and we will continue to do so for many years to come.
When I first started Chemotherapy Headwear, the stats were that 1 in 3 people would develop cancer in their lifetime. Today, its nearly 1 in 2 and virtually every life will be touched by cancer in 2026.
As the numbers have changed over the years, I have seen first hand the increasing impact of cancer. My nan had bowel cancer, breast cancer and lung cancer, followed by my mum who had breast cancer and then, 16 years later, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, and my dad who had lung cancer, bowel cancer and skin cancer..... but the hits of course, dont stop there. My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago too. Their legacy will always be in every life they have (and fortunately some will continue) to touch.
When mum was diagnosed, there were no hats or headscarves available for her. Fortunately today, there are quite a few of us who help women with hairloss - each one of us has our own story to tell - we all approach the solution differently, but what is clear is that the legacy of our loved ones who have passed, survived or are living with cancer, is that of inspiring people like me to make a positive difference for others.
I started this website back in 2008, and my ethos has not changed - if a chemo hat or headscarf isn't comfortable, easy to wear, made well or looks good, I won't stock it. I dont sell cheap Chinese imports that are badly made and fit poorly, but I also won't sell chemotherapy headwear that costs a fortune either.
Chemo hats and scarves should be made of fabric that does not irritate the skin, which is why I use cotton, bamboo or cotton jersey. Cancer patients undergo enough stress during treatment and simple things such as finding suitable headcovers that help them to feel confident and ready to take on the world, should not add to this stress.
I believe that all people have the basic right to feel beautiful. I have been honoured to provide support to many women over the years and will continue to develop headwear to ensure all women have access to the products they need.
